San Francisco Peak Obsidian is
grayish black and extremely vitrophyric with abundant feldspar
phenocrysts and inter-banded with ash. The cortex ranges from a
ashy rhyolite to weathered black.

quality knapping material not allowing for controlled fractures.
More vitreous material may have a slightly improved knapping quality.

San Francisco Peaks Obsidian is associated with the San Francisco
Volcanics and occurs as abundant nodules above 3,300m in elevation on
the northwest slope of Fremont Peak near Agassiz Saddle in the Coconino
National Forest, Coconino County, Arizona.
