Color:  Plummer chert is black with white to gray specks and streaks.  Courser grained or softer regions of white, gray, or brown may be present.

No primary outcroppings have been located, but artifacts and flakes utilizing this material has been found in Greene County, Indiana.  A similar material has been reported in the Lieber State Recreational area in Owen and Putnam county Indiana.  It is thought to be associated with the Ferdinand Limestone formation which is also found in Greene, Owen, and Clay counties in Indiana.
