Ogallala Orthoquartzite is associated with the Ogallala Formation of western Nebraska, northeastern Colorado, southeastern Wyoming, southern South Dakota, western and central Kansas, western Oklahoma, northwestern Texas, and eastern New Mexico.  .  Sources occur from the Black Hills to northern Kansas including along the Republican River and Smoky Hills River and along the Missouri and Niobrara rivers in central Nebraska and into the Bijou Hills of South Dakota.  Other outcroppings occur in Logan, Ness, Phillips, Norton, Graham and Rawlings County, Kansas, and Dallas, and Gregory counties South Dakota,
