Color:  Munsungun Lake Chert has a diverse coloration ranging from a light gray or greenish gray to black or red weathering to a light tan or gray.  Mottling may be present.

Munsungun Lake Chert is associated with the Munsungun Lake Formation of northern Maine with primary exposures occurring around Munsungun Lake, Piscataqius County, Maine and along Kennebec River and along the west side of the west branch of the Kennebec River and Brassua Lake in northern Somerset County, Maine.  Exposures also occur in Aroostook County, Maine.
