Hillsdale Chert is associated with the Hillsdale Limestone Formation of southeastern West Virginia and southwestern Virginia.  Primary outcroppings occur east of Hillsdale, Monroe County West Virginia and Greenbrier and Mercer counties north to Marlinton, Pocahontas County, West Virginia.  Also outcrops in Giles County, Virginia and throughout southwestern West Virginia and into Kentucky.
