Color:  Gun Flint Silica is translucent to transparent and ranges in color from a gray to bluish gray or almost colorless (in thin material).  Small black inclusions similar to pepper are seen throughout the material.

Distribution Comments:

Gun Flint Silica is associated with the Gunflint Formation, Animikian Group.  Primary sources along Gunflint Lake in Ontario and into northeastern Minnesota.  May be found in glacial drift.
