Cow Canyon Obsidian is associated with the Mogollom - Datil Volcanics occurring as marekanites / nodules (up to 5 cm) with the primary source being the rhyolite domes at the upper end of Cow Canyon and secondary sources  being Eagle Creek along Bee Canyon and Robinson Mesa to the west and Blue River to the east in Greenlee County, Arizona.  Also occurs in the 111 Ranch Formation.
