Description of Physical Characteristics:

Color:  Bois d'Arch Chert ranges from a light bluish gray to a yellowish gray or red.  Tiny black or rust color inclusions and mottling of red and gray may be present.  Edges may be translucent.

Texture: 
Course to medium grain

Luster: Porous to vitreous 

Translucency: Opaque to semi translucent on thin edges

Silica Fabrics / Fossils: Commonly fossiliferous

Patina: Light gray to rust color

Bois d'Arch Chert is associated with the Cravett Member of the Bois d'Arch Formation (Pinetop Formation extension) of Oklahoma.  Primarily occurs as nodules, lenses, or thin beds along Bois d'Arc Creek and Chimneyhill Creek, White Mound, and Mill Creek, Oklahoma.  Lenses are found on the western Arbuckle Mountains in Coal County, Oklahoma.
