Arroyo Penasco Chert is associated with the Arroyo Penasco Formation of New Mexico occurring as abundant beds in Pinos and Penasco canyons and Arroyo Penasco in the Nacimionto Mountains in Sandoval County, New Mexico.  Also exposed in the San Pedro, Jemez, Sandia, and Sangre de Cristo mountains and Tecolote Creek in New Mexico.
