Description of Physical Characteristics and Flaking Pattern:

This is a medium triangular contracting stem point with an elliptical cross section.  The blade may vary from excurvate to an inward recurvate shape.  The blades are finely serrated.  The shoulders are at an upward angle and rounded.  The stem is slightly smaller than the width.  The stem is contracting with a convex base.  This point has a random flaking pattern.

This point is primarily found on the floodplain of the Santa Cruz  River and the Tucson Basin.

Additional Comments:

These points are similar to the Empire points from the same area, but these points have a wider blade and a contracting stem where the Empire points have a narrow blade and a straight to slightly expanding stem.  These points are distinguished from San Pedro points by the lack of side notching or shoulder barbs or the prominent shoulders that are seen in the San Pedro type.  This point is similar to Gypsum points, but differs from that point by the weaker shoulders with a wider stem that is wide and has a broad convex base (Sliva, 2009).

Sliva has conducted extensive analyses of flaked stone and constructed and extensive database on flaked stones of Arizona.  This type was named in a professional publication, but has limited professional references.  This type needs greater professional recognition.  This is considered a provisional type.
