Additional Comments:

It has been reported that this type first was named in 1955 in Oakes-Meyers publication on archaeology of the Upper Ohio River valley.  This type later appeared in Gary Fogleman's publication on projectile point types from Pennsylvania.  Collector's say that this type was named for the Spidel site in Pennsylvania, but no record was found of that site.  It has also been mentioned that this type was mentioned in the excavation report from the Fishbasket site (  36AR134), but no mention of this type was found associated with that site.  There have been no other references to the Spidel type.
