Description of Physical Characteristics and Flaking Pattern:
This is a small to medium triangular expanding stem to corner notch point with an elliptical
cross section. The blade is primarily excurvate but may range to
almost straight. The shoulders vary from horizontal to slightly
barbed. The stem is expanding with a concave base. The basal
corners auriculate range from rounded to pointed and may have a drooping
appearance. Basal grinding is present on this point and it has a
random flaking pattern.

coastal regions of Alaska and into the Artic of Canada.

The Tuktu complex was
identified by J.M. Cooper in 1962 based on his work at Anaktuvuk Pass.
The similar Palisade complex was identified by Giddings in 1957 based on his
work at Cape Krusenstern and Onion Portage.
Some collector sources use the name Kotzebue Bay for notched points found in
the Kotzebue Bay region. The the Tuktu / Palisade complex are noted
for notched points found in this area.

Giddings was a distinguished anthropologist and
professor of Anthropology at Brown University. Giddings served as one of
the first associated of the Artic Institute and was an expert in the
archaeology of Alaska and the Artic. This point was named after the
Palisades complex and has many professional references. This
is considered a valid type.
