Description of Physical Characteristics and Flaking Pattern:
This is a thin medium to large lanceolate stemmed point with an elliptical cross section. The blade is excurvate with many examples having almost parallel edges. The
shoulders are weak to absent and at an upward angle. The stem ranges from straight to slightly expanding with a concave base which may give the point an auriculate appearance. This point has
basal thinning and basal and
hafting region grinding. This point is made using flat broad
flakes that extend across the face of the blade with finer finishing
flaking used to retouch the edges commonly leaving a finely serrated
blade. Flaking pattern may vary from horizontal to oblique or
random.
Size Measurements: Total Length - 40 to
180 mm (average 75 to 85 mm), Stem Length - 15 to 20 mm,
Blade Width - 23 to 45 mm (average 25 to 35 mm), Basal Width - 20
to 42 mm (average 25 to 30 mm)

Additional Comments:
Ritzenthaler (1967) argues that this represents a
Scottsbluff variant). This point is thinner than the Scottsbluff point. However, Justice, (1987), argues that this may be related to the
Dalton points and not the Scottsbluff point. Perino (1971) compares
the flaking technique of this point to the flaking technique used on Dalton
points and feels that these may be more closely related to them.
