This is a medium to large crescent shaped knife with an elliptical to plano-convex cross section.  The blade is excurvate on one edge and incurvate on the other edge   They may have the shape of a crescent moon or a butterfly shape.

This name is based on the shape of the knife and the older knifes by the same name found in Nevada and the surrounding region.

The full distribution is not known, but they are primarily associated with Texas, into New Mexico, Coahuila, and Chihuahua Mexico.  They have been reported into the Tennessee River Valley and in the lower plains states.
