Description of Physical Characteristics and Flaking Pattern:
This is a medium to large triangular stemmed point with a flattened to elliptical cross section.  The blade is primarily excurvate, but may curve at the tip and have parallel edges one half of the blades length.  The shoulders may vary from horizontal to having an upward slope.  The stem is slightly contracting.  The base is convex.  Basal thinning is commonly seen on this point.  Basal grinding may be light, but is not present on most examples.  This point has a random flaking pattern.

Additional Comments:

Richie (1971) suggest that this is a relationship between the Snook Kill point (Koens-Crispin / Lehigh) and the Savannah River point.  Others (Funk, 1993) suggest that this point is the ascendant to broad spear type points in the Northeast and Mid- Atlantic region.  This type may represent the transitional type between these types.

Distribution Comments:

This point was reported in Virginia and into North Carolina and Maryland.  This is a variant of the Savannah River so it may have a distribution the same as the Savannah River type.
