Cluster: Chaco Cluster
Description of Physical Characteristics and Flaking Pattern:
This is a small triangular side notch point with an elliptical to flattened cross section.  The blade is primarily excurvate.  Occasionally, some examples have had one or more notches on one blade just above the shoulders.  Parallel notches are U-shaped and may enter the blade at a horizontal or diagonal angle.  The shoulders are primarily horizontal, but may be at a slight upward angle.  The stem is expanded.  The base is most commonly convex, but some examples have a straight base.  This point has a random flaking pattern.
Size Measurements:

Total Length - 19 to 45 mm (average 21 to 26 mm),  Stem Length - 5 to 7 mm,  Blade Width - 8 to 14 mm (average 11 to 13 mm),  Neck Width - 4 to 7 mm,  Stem Width - 8 to 15 mm,  Thickness - 2 to 4 mm

Additional Comments:

Justice (2002) suggest that this type was a direct evolution of the Chaco Corner Notch type.  Though these points are slightly newer than the Chaco points, they were used simultaneously for a period of time at Pueblo Bonito.  Both types were found on arrows in the same quiver and in caches together.  These points represent a change in the Chaco type point changing from a wider preform to a narrower preform and a change of notch placement from the corners to higher on the blade of the preform.
Distribution:
Distribution Comments:
