Allen conducted extensive archaeological studies around Alabama.   Hulse is a renowned Anthropologist who did extensive work in Alabama and was a professor at the University of Tennessee.  This point was named in a professional book.  This point has been referred to in numerous professional publications and is considered a valid type.

Description of Physical Characteristics and Flaking Pattern:
This is a medium (1.75 to 3 inches) triangular expanding stem point with an elliptical cross section.  The blade may range from straight to excurvate and are commonly finely serrated.  The shoulders range having a slightly upward angle to being slightly barbed.  The stem is expanding with a convex base giving the stem a bulbous appearance.  This point has a random flaking pattern formed by shallow percussion flaking on the face of the blade and pressure flaking to shape the blade and thin the base.

Total Length - 48 to 73 mm (61 mm average), Stem Length - 12 to 18 mm (15 mm average),  Blade Width - 22 to 28 mm ( 24 mm average), Neck Width - 11 to 22 mm,  Stem Width - 15 to 19 mm (17 mm average), Thickness - 6 to 7 mm

This point is primarily found in the Tennessee River Valley and onto the Ohio River Valley.  This point has been reported into southern Illinois and eastern Missouri with decreased frequency.
