Quimby was an anthropologist who excavated many sites including the Bayou Goula Site and published many professional publications. Webb was a trained Pediatrician who became interested in archeology. In 1940 he became the charter member of the Society of American Archeology. He conducted many collaborative excavations and conducted his own excavations at Poverty Point and Gahagan Mounds. He was a well-respected Archaeologist. He named this point in a professional publication and this type has many professional references. This is a valid type.

Description of Physical Characteristics and Flaking Pattern:
This is a small to medium triangular expanding stem point with an elliptical cross section. The blade is primarily straight, but may vary from slightly excurvate to slightly incurvate. Wide parallel notches enter low on the blade forming a shoulder that is at an upward angle and a small expanding stem. The base in concave. This point has a random flaking pattern.

Total Length - 28 to 60 mm (average 35 to 45 mm), Stem Length - 6 to 12 mm, Blade Width - 9 to 20 mm, Neck Width - 5 to 10 mm, Stem Width, slightly narrower than blade, Thickness - 3 to 6 mm (average 4 mm).

This point was original referred to as the Bayou Goula after the type site. The name was ran together later and the type was referred to as Bayougoula point. There are many publications that have also dropped the u from the name calling this type Bayogoula.
