AVERY ISLAND – was a name suggested by archaeologist Sherwood Gagliano for examples representing an occupation sequence of artifacts from sites on Avery Island, a salt dome best known as the source of Tabasco sauce. It is Located in Iberia Parish, Louisiana. It is about three miles inland from Vermillion Bay, which in turn opens onto the Gulf of Mexico. Note: This sequence of points has not been formally recognized therefore, the name is likely used by local collectors only.
