Michael Spence is a distinguished anthropologist who retired Professor Emeritus from the Department of Anthropology, University of Western Ontario. He conducted extensive research in Mexico and Ontario. This type was identified in his publication on cultures of Mexico. 
Atotonilco Side Notch

Description of Physical Characteristics and Flaking Pattern:
This is a small to medium triangular side notch point with a thin elliptical cross section.  The blade is primarily straight varying to slightly excurvate.  Notches enter the preform low on the blade forming a shoulder that ranges from horizontal to having a slight upward angle.  The stem ranges from expanded to expanding with a base that is straight to slightly concave.  The basal corners are occasionally squared.  This point has a random flaking pattern.

Length - 22 to 57 mm (average 37 mm),  Blade Width - 12 to 26 mm (average 20 mm), Thickness - 3 to 6 mm (average 5 mm)

Similar to the Santa Ana Side notch, but the Santa Ana Side Notch is generally narrower, longer, and have a straight base (Spence, 1971).

These point are primarily found in Loma, Guadiana Chalchihuites, and Suchil Chalchihuites cultural regions of Chihuahua, Durango, Zacatecas, San Luis Potosi, Jalisco, and Aguascalientes Mexico.
