Lewis was a prominent anthropologist and professor at the University of Tennessee.  He was instrumental in the formation of the Tennessee Archaeological Society and Tennessee Archaeologist journal where he served as editor.  Kneberg was a prominent anthropologist and professor at the University of Tennessee.  She is most recognized for her excavations through-out the Tennessee River Valley.  This type was named in a professional publication and has many professional references.  This is considered a valid type.

Description of Physical Characteristics and Flaking Pattern:
This is a medium to large (2.4 to 4.8 inches) triangular stemmed point with an elliptical cross section.  The blade has an excurvate shape.  The shoulders are most commonly at an upward angle, but may be horizontal.  The stem is straight, but may have a slight expanding or contracting shape.  The base is straight to concave.  The point is commonly crudely made and has a random flaking pattern.

Length - 60 to 120 mm , Stem Length - 16 mm average,  Blade Width - 38 mm average, Stem Width - 16 mm average, Thickness - 10 to 18 mm

This point is most commonly made out of quartz and quartzite.

This point is primarily found in western Tennessee and Kentucky and into Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and into Alabama.  It's primary concentration is in the southern Appalachian range.
