Loyd Doty reports:
ANTHON (Lanceolate) – was named by Frank A. Weir and Glen H. Doran for examples found at the Anthon type site (41UV60) where 21 Anthon projectiles were recovered from a campsite on a terrace of the Nueces River in southern Uvalde County, Texas about 25 miles below the Balcones Escarpment. They are small to medium sized (1 to 2 ½”) projectiles and knives that are triangular in outline with slightly convex blade edges. Bases are usually straight to convex and slightly canted to the longitudinal axis. Bases can be moderately to extremely thinned. The marked attribute of this type is the slight to extreme left beveling of the blade. Tips are sharp and bases are straight. They were in use during the Middle Archaic period and distribution is from central to southern Texas. Reference: The Anthon Site: A Prehistoric Encampment in Southern Uvalde County, TX.
