This point was named during the analysis of the artifacts from the Shawnee - Minisink site.  It was named in a professional publication and has many professional references.  This is considered a valid type.
Ansell Side Notch

Description of Physical Characteristics and Flaking Pattern:
This is a medium (2.5 to 3.3 inch) side notch point with an elliptical cross section.  The blade is excurvate.  Shallow side notches enter low on the blade forming a shoulder that is at an upward angle.  The stem may range from expanding to straight or contracting.  The base is straight.  This point has a random flaking pattern. 
Size Measurements:

Total Length - 35 to 85 mm,  Stem Length - 9 to 15 mm,  Blade Width - 18 to 28 mm,  Neck Width - 13 to 21 mm,  Stem Width - 18 to 25 mm (***Based on small sample size***)

This type is commonly included in the Matanzas Cluster, but Justice (1987) feels that this type has been poorly described and that the technology that is employed with this type is not constant with the Matanzas cluster and that the technology more closely represents the technology of the Chester or Copena cluster.
