Ruby Valley Lanceolate

Description of Physical Characteristics and Flaking Pattern:
This is a small to medium lanceolate point with an elliptical cross section. The blade is excurvate with the tip curving in and curving back in towards the base. The widest part of the blade is about the mid-point. The base is straight to concave. This point has a parallel to oblique flaking pattern.

These points are referred to as both Alder Complex after the Alder Complex of Montana, and Ruby Valley after the site where this point was identified which dated to the Alder Complex.
At Baron Gulch these points were found in levels below Metzal (8,700 B.P Hardinger Complex) points (Gibson and Ames, 1998).
This point is similar to the James Allen and Fredrick points with similar flaking patterns. However, Ruby Valley points tend to be smaller than other Transitional Paleo points from the region (Bousman and Vierra, 2012).
Bousman and Vierra (2012) reports Davis et al, 1988 as first naming / referencing this type. This reference has not been able to be located yet.
