Distribution Comments:
Whitewood Chert is associated with the Whitewood Limestone (dolomite) Formation of the Black Hills Uplift of  western South Dakota and northeastern South Dakota.  Primary outcroppings occur in Whitewood Canyon below Deadwood, South Dakota.  The Deadwood Limestone Formation was reported as overlying the Whitewood Limestone Formation, but it has been suggested that the two formations be combined into the Whitewood Limestone Formation.
