Description of Physical Characteristics:

Color: Warsaw Chert is opaque and ranges from a pale tan or brownish gray to a medium brown,  White streaking is commonly present along with white fossil remnants.

Texture:
Medium to fine grain

Luster: Dull to waxy

Silica Fabrics / Fossils: Sponge spicule

Patina:

Heat Treatment:  Heat treatment produces varying shades of red including a pale rad, pale reddish brown, or grayish red.  Other colors produced include dark gray or black.  Luster is increased along with ease of flaking.
