Valmy Chert is associated with the Valmy Formation of Nevada and is considered the western facies of the Vinni Formation.  Outcroppings occur as beds in the Dry Hills, Cortex Mountains, the crest and northeastern Sulfur Springs Range, Shoshone Range, Tuscarora Mountains, northern Independence Range, east and in the hills north of Double Mountain, Snake Mountains, HD Range, and the Windermere Hills.  Was named for the railroad station Valmy in Nevada.
