Tosawihi Chert is associated with the Tosawihi Member of an unknown formation of the Santa Renia Mountains of Nevada.  In the Santa Renia Mountains three primary chert producing formations occur.  The Woodruff Formation which produces a black to brown chert and a white to pale green porcelanite, the Vinni Formation which very pale green to gray or tan chert, and the Carlin Sequence which produces chert ranging from green, gray, tan, and white.  The Toswihi Member may be a member of the Vinni or Carlin formations, or the equivalent of Woodruff Porcelanite.
