Shady Chert is associated with the Shady Dolomite Formation of Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina, Virginia and sub-surface in Kentucky, Ohio, and West Virginia.  Occurs as beds in Calhoun, Cherokee, Cleburne, Shelby, and Talladega counties, Alabama.  Occurs as thin beds and nodules in Johnson County, Tennessee extending into North Carolina and Virginia.
