Ruth Lake Chert is associated with the Ruth Lake Formation of the Knob Lake Group of Labrador and Quebec.  Primary exposures occur in the Ruth Lake region near Schefferville in northeastern Quebec and western Labrador.  Formation is restricted to the western margin of the Labrador Trough.
