Prospect Mountain Quartzite is associated with the Prospect Mountain Formation of eastern Nevada and western Utah (House Range and Gold Hill region).  Primary outcroppings occur around Prospect Peak, Hancock Canyon and Mill Creek in the northern Shoshone Range, Egan Range, Cherry Creek range, Quinn Canyon, Schell Creek, Snake Range, Highland Range, Bristol Range, Jarbridge Mountains, Pilot Range, northern Toana Range, and in the Bull Run Mountains grades into a orthoquartzite.
