Prophet Chert is associated with the Prophet Formation of British Columbia, Yukon, and Northwest Territories.  Occurs as beds, nodules, and masses with exposures occurring at the headwaters of Bat Creek (formerly Bull Creek) in northeastern British Columbia to th Muskwa River, Mountain Creek, and along the Peace River Embayment.  Exposures occur from the eastern Rocky Mountains and western Foothills to the District of Mackenzie and southeastern Yukon to the Hafway River and Fort Saint John.
