Description of Physical Characteristics:

Color:  Plattin Chert has two variations.

White Plattin Chert
ranges from white to a light gray or light brown,  non-lustrous

Brown Plattin Chert
ranges from a dark grayish brown to a light gray color.  Slight weak mottling or weak banding and fossil fragments may be present. 

Texture: 
Fine grain

Luster: Dull (White Plattin) to waxy (Brown Plattin)

Silica Fabrics / Fossils: Few in White Plattin, Ostrocodes in Brown Plattin
