Muddy Mountain Chert is associated with the Muddy Mountain Chert Member of the Madison Formation of northwestern Wyoming.  Primary outcroppings occur on the southeastern slope of Black Mountain and the southern end of Owl Creek Mountains, Fremont County, Wyoming.  Named for Muddy Mountain (Monument Peak), Fremont County, Wyoming.
