Description of Physical Characteristics:

Color:  Morrow Mountain Rhyolite is a homogeneous dark gray to black and many shades of green, flow banding may be present.

Texture: 
Fine grain

Luster: Dull to satin

Silica Fabrics / Fossils:

Patina: Patina is a chalky whitish gray.

Heat Treatment:  Chalky grayish white

Morrow Mountain (Uwharrie) Rhyolite occcurs as sheets and beds throughout the Piedmont of North and South Carolina and into Virginia and Georgia.  Many references only place exposures in Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.  Little River Metadactite is a similar material that has exposures in Georgia and South Carolina.
