Color:  Longview chert are primarily reddish, but white to gray colors do occur.

Lovngview Chert is associated with the Longview Member of the Knox Formation occurring as beds, and nodules with primary sources being in Knox, Polk, and Floyd counties, Georgia.  It is also found throughout the Lower Little Tennessee River in Eastern Tennessee.  Outcroppings occur along the Little Cahaba River and the Cahaba Valley north of the reservoir, and along Buck Creek between Helena and Pelham.  Named for exposures in Longview, Shelby County, Alabama. 

In Virginia and Maryland the Longview Limestone Member is listed as the Longview Limestone Formation of the Beekmantown Group.
