Creek Chalcedony
Description of Physical Characteristics:
Color: Cattail
Chert can range from translucent to opaque with colors ranging from
white to black. The most common colors range from a light tan to
brown and gray to blue with a mottled creamy gray-blue being the most
common.
Texture: The texture can range from a course grainy
quartzite like to a finer smooth chalcedony like texture.
Luster: Dull to glossy
Translucency: Opaque to semi translucent
Silica Fabrics / Fossils: Carbonaceous matter
and pyrite primarily with rutile needles,. apatite, iron oxide gels, and
sponge spicules also occurring.
Patina: Patina ranges from a light o medium
gray or blue.

Primary sources are found in Dinwiddie County, Virginia. Can be
found from the Nottoway River to the Dismal Swamp of North Carolina to
the Falls Line of Virginia.
