Description of Physical Characteristics:

Color:  Gordon Lake Chert ranges in color from a light greenish gray to a darker green chert or quartzite.  Quartz banding is commonly seen especially in material from the east of the distribution while material from the west of the distribution tends to have reddish banding.  Can range from opaque to translucent

Texture:
Course (quartzite) to smooth (chert)

Luster: Dull to waxy

Gordon Lake Chert with the Gordon Lake Formation and is associated with glacial deposits found in the Elliot Lake and areas to the south and east of Georgian Bay, Ontario.  Primary outcroppings occur in North Bay of Smooth Water Lake and the other is at Mississauga Provincial Park north of Elliot Lake.
