There are many theories on what has formed Georgiates, the most accepted is a meteor impact (Chesapeake Bay Impact) that melted surrounding silica forming Georgiates.  It has also been suggested that volcanic activity has created them similar to obsidian.  Other theories include; glassy meteorites, lunar volcanic activity, and lunar meteor impacts.  Most Georgiates come from Dodge and Bleckley counties, Georgia, but have been recorded  from Allendale and Aiken counties, South Carolina to Dooly and Turner counties, Georgia.
