Ely Chert is associated with the Ely Limestone Formation of eastern Nevada.  The Ely Limestone Formation's most prominent  feature if the numerous nodules and bands of chert (Ely Chert).  Primary outcroppings occur throughout the Ely Region of Nevada primarily from Bald Mountain and Little Bald Mountain towards the Ruby Marshes on the west side of Long Valley, White Pine County, Nevada.  Also outcrops north of Carlin Canyon and the southern Adobe Range.  Outcroppings also occur in the Ruby Mountains, Egan Range including Cherry Creek in the north Egan Range, Pequop Mountians - Wood Hills area, and the Pilot Range.  Lawson used the name Ruth Limestone for this formation for outcroppings on the Egan Range, White Pine County, Nevada (Ruth mine).
