Baird Chert is associated with the Baird Limestone Formation of northern California with chert making up 50 percent of the Limestone Formation.  Primary outcroppings occur on the northern ridge at altitudes of 1.950 feet and both sides of McCloud River arm of Shasta lake, California and into Oregon.  Named for the Baird Fish Hatchery on the McCloud River near the junction of the Pitt River.
